ABOUT THE BLAZE FOUNDATION

The Blaze Foundation is a non-profit organization created to help serve those who are home-bound in the Cobb County/North Fulton area. We are offering our services in a variety of needed ways throughout the community. The service request form is intended primarily for the senior community or those with other health related issues that make everyday errands difficult or could potentially put them at risk due to COVID-19. Simply fill out the form to request a service such as grocery pickup, mailing packages, donation runs, etc. We will match your request with a student volunteer in the community who is looking to give back. Anyone willing to participate as a volunteer is encouraged to fill out the volunteer form (click on the "Volunteer" button below).

ABOUT THE VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers are primarily high school and college aged students in the local community looking to give back and serve others. Each volunteer is asked to submit information including their school, address, contact information, and character references. All references are checked and verified. Our goal is to provide a team of volunteers with high integrity to maintain a safe and supportive environment.

VOLUNTEER POLICIES:

  • Tipping volunteers is neither required nor expected, however reasonable tips are appreciated if warranted

  • Volunteers are not allowed to handle money of any kind to complete transactions with the exception of a reasonable tip after completing the service. Please make arrangements for payment of all goods in advance.

  • Any monetary transaction should occur directly with the store. Volunteers cannot handle money for purchases on your behalf. (e.g. volunteers will pick up groceries for you or help you place online orders but you would need to pay the grocery store directly for your items)

  • Volunteers will not enter your home

  • Volunteers will provide contact-free delivery

SERVICE CREDIT/ HOURS:

Volunteers will be provided with a way to submit and keep track of their time worked in order to receive service hours or community service credit if desired.

Hello! My name is Lindsay Jenson. I started the Blaze Foundation as a rising senior at Walton High School in Marietta, Georgia in the spring of 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic was challenging for all of us. During the initial months of the pandemic, I did my best to be of service to others such as my grandparents, neighbors, and friends who were at higher risk when leaving their homes. Although I was in quarantine myself and practicing social distancing, I noticed that performing small permitted tasks such as picking up groceries or mailing packages was more of a help to those in need around me than I originally could have imagined. I realized that many of the home-bound people who are at higher risk during this ongoing situation do not have friends or family who are able to run simple yet necessary errands. When my original plans to serve on a mission trip that summer were canceled due to traveling restrictions, I was reminded that serving others doesn't require life-changing trips, but rather is something that is exceptionally important within our own community, especially during this time. I found that many others in my community wanted to help, but didn't know how to reach those needing help. My simple idea of wanting to put those wanting to help in contact with those needing help expanded into what has become the Blaze Foundation.  My hope is that by connecting others to serve with me and expand upon the idea of doing small things with great love, we can create a network centered around service opportunities that will impact the community in ways that last far longer than the extent of the pandemic.
